OUR STORY

J'nae Collection is an African Prints Clothing and Accessories company based in Detroit, MI. We create modern African wear and accessories for the daily individual. Our company started in 2016 after our CEO Shanavia Thomas created a hair bonnet for her balding 8 month old son. She noticed their were no hair protectants for toddlers and took initiative to create them. This was the first project into her incoming seamtress and fashion design career. Eventually this lead to her wanting to create clothing for her now 5 year old toddler. Shanavia wanted to create clothing that represented her sons identity, spirituality and ethnic background. Using African textiles and modern sewing patterns were the only way she could manifest her artistic expression for creating the clothing she foresaw. She also couldn’t find African garments in stores or at festivals. This disappointment motivated her to change that narrative. Since then she has dedicated her time to expanding African printed garments, accessories and textiles for children and adults in the fashion industry.
